There's been a longstanding rumor in the golf world that Tiger Woods wears a prototype Rolex Deepsea. In 2011, he became an official brand ambassador for a period of time, so it would only make sense that if there were any special Rolexes floating around, it might be on the wrist of someone that close to the brand, right?
He's known to have a particular affinity for the Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea replica watch, both the ref. 116660 and D-Blue. He wore one last year when he won the Masters – fitting for a sporting man who loves deep-sea fishing and SCUBA diving. He's always spotted wearing one, so it's conceivable that he might have a Deepsea with a little something extra.
So what's the deal?
Ben was even asked this very question last December on The Erik Anders Lang Show (at 55:50). Anders Lang is the guy in the golf media world. It is indeed a thing, just like watch media (it's hard to explain what I do to folks –"wait, so you write about watches?"). Anders Lang put forth the notion that Tiger's watch might be a one-off, but Ben's theory was that making a custom watch for someone like Tiger is something a lesser brand might do. The Rolex on his wrist is most likely the same model that you'd be able to buy at a boutique.
But that was just a theory.
In a video that was posted yesterday, Anders Lang finally got to the bottom of it. He solved the mystery that the narrow segment of folks that are deep into both golf and watches wanted to understand.

Tiger was free for all of 90 seconds, and Lang had the opportunity to shake his hand and ask for a photo. Lang said he had never been more nervous to meet someone and that this was a massive moment for him. So he gets the photo, and normally you'd think the brief chat would be about something golf-related. Lucky for us, Lang asked him about his watch. It's all in the video.
Lang asks the question: "Your watch, it's just a normal watch, right?"
Tiger replies, "Yeah. Normal watch. It's just on the heavier side. It's the heaviest one they make."
Then Lang proceeds to ask him something that non-watch folk might find very strange. But it's a fascinating question. He asks, "Do you wear it when you sleep?"
"Yeah," Tiger replied.

So that's it. Tiger Woods wears his Rolex Deepsea when he sleeps, and Anders Lang got even more than he bargained for with his 90-second encounter with the golf legend.
